Jennifer Sewell

Identified by the UK Legal 500 2022 edition as very commercially aware and willing to go the extra mile, Jennifer has specialised in commercial dispute resolution and regulatory defence for over 16 years.

 

Regulatory Defence

 

Jennifer has substantial experience in acting for clients facing investigation and defending clients being prosecuted by regulators including the Health & Safety Executive, Trading Standards, the Environment Agency and local Planning Authorities. In her previous role, a significant proportion of her workload involved cases with fatalities or catastrophic injuries in the workplace.

 

Commercial Dispute Resolution and Contractual Disputes

 

Having worked in a large regional commercial dispute resolution team for over 16 years, Jennifer has handled numerous large commercial contractual disputes, some of which have resulted in trials listed for a number of days (sometimes weeks) in the High Court. 

 

Jennifer’s main commercial dispute resolution practice comprised of shareholder disputes, petitions for Unfair Prejudice and acting for companies against employees in breach of restrictive covenants or fiduciary duties and the unlawful diversion of business by the employee.

 

Supply Chain and Consumer Disputes

 

Having worked for a number of national retailers, including household names in the kitchen retail industry, caravan and motor home manufacturing and motor sales industry, over many years, Jennifer has developed significant experience in supply chain disputes and consumer contract disputes.  She has in depth working knowledge of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and associated legislation.

 

Advertising Disputes

 

Again, working for national retail clients, Jennifer has gained substantial experience in dealing with allegations of breaches of the Advertising Codes imposed by the Advertising Standards Authority.  She has particular experience and expertise in relation to comparative advertising.

 

Jennifer is also has knowledge of the rules contained in the Sourcebooks and Guides for businesses in the FCA Handbook.

 

Advocacy and working with Counsel

 

Jennifer is a confident advocate, both in the Magistrates’ Court (as part of her regulatory work) and the County Court (as part of her civil caseload).  She also regularly works with external Counsel.
